Back In Dallas The Gluten Free & Allergen Expo

It’s coming, it’s coming!!

The Gluten Free & Allergen Expo will be back in town in September and I’m really excited. This will be my third time participating as one of the official bloggers for the Expo. For me, this is the opportunity to try new products and share the information with you.

In case you don’t know what all this is about,: here is some information from their website:

The GFAF Expos are the largest and fastest growing special diet consumer events in the US. Started in 2007, the events are professionally managed and have expanded from one to seven cities throughout the United States. In addition to meeting the needs of the Celiac community, the Expo welcomes those with gluten sensitivities, auto-immune/inflammatory diseases and autism.

This Expo sparked my interest when my doctor told me that I had a gluten allergy and asked me to eat a gluten free diet. This was really hard, because all the great things in life, contain gluten, *cough* French bread *cough*. 😉 But thanks to going to this event, talking to friends and researching online, now it is so natural that I don’t event think about it. Well, that’s not entirely true… Once a month I do miss bread and cakes most than ever, but for the most part, I’m good.

About the Expo

This year, just like last, the Expo will take place at the Dallas Market Hall (North Hall). The list of vendors looks amazing. I’m looking forward to stopping by the following booths:

Besides vendors, this Expo, brings great resources to learn from. This year we will be hearing from:

  •  Tiffany Hinton aka Gluten Free Mom Certified – “Stop Poisoning Your Child at Home- How to Avoid Cross-Contamination”
  • Elizabeth Anthony Gronert – “Gluten is Hidden in More Than Food!”
  • Jenna Drew – “Essential Oils for Digestive Wellness”
  • Juan Martin Prats – “A Celiac Experience Around The World”

Review: Against The Grain Gourmet – Baguettes

Can I get a HIGH FIVE! Or a lifetime supply of the amazing Against the Grain Gourmet Baguettes? – I’ll take the second one please! 😉 In my quest to find GOOD GLUTEN FREE BREAD, I came across to most amazing, delicious baguette, and I have to be grateful to Against The Grain Gourmet for this.

I have to confess, I was really scared, because in the past, I’ve tried different kinds of Gluten Free Bread, and some of them were good, some were strange, and some were really bad. So when I came across this one, I grabbed but with a hesitant hand.

I love making sandwiches, I really do. It is one of the most fun foods in the world. You can do so many combinations and be creative. I love SANDWICHES! And good bread is key in this process. If your bread is so, so, your sandwich will be only so, so. If your bread is delicious… then BOOM you got a delicious sandwich!

That was the case with Against The Grain Gourmet Baguette. It was like an explosion of flavor in my mouth. The main purpose was to make a tuna melt and it served that purpose. It was strong enough to hold the tuna and the cheese and at the same time crunchy – not hard – but crunchy, just like a fresh piece of French baguette.

At that point, I thought that it made sense that it tasted delicious because it had tuna, mayonnaise, and cheese, what taste bad with all that? So I put it to the test… I ate it with butter only and guess what!? It was AMAZING!!! The flavor that jumped to me was cheese… and when I looked at the ingredients, that was part of it. WINNING!!

The funny part of all this is that I recently bought their book and it was when I was looking at the website to learn more about the products and saw the book. So naturally, the Hallelujah song started playing with an orchestra of angels playing harps…(too much? well I want you to get the point 😉 )

To say the least, I’ll be a consumer for life – that’s why I need an unlimited supply of the products -. And, now more than ever, I’m excited and eager to start preparing some recipes from the book and make my gluten free meals more delicious.

Find them in a store near you. I know you will be happy you found them, and you can say like Oprah say in her Weight Watchers Commercial…

Have you tried this bread or any of the other products? Do you have their cookbook? If so, have you made any of their recipes? How did it turned out? Tell me everything, I want to hear your experience. Did you hear angels sing like me?

Happy sandwich eating!!! 🙂

Gluten Free Expo Review – Dallas

I know I’m a little late… but here it goes!

As you know the Gluten Free Expo was in Dallas last weekend. For me this is one of the most exciting expos because I get to meet new people and to learn so much about new products. This year’s sponsor was Massel and they were super attentive with all the bloggers and attendees. They gave us the cutest gift full with goodies and even a cup! Their product is amazing. I got to try the bullion, it make great chicken, beef or veggie stock!

Other vendor that I was excited to see and talk to was Freedom Foods. They came out with new flavors and even a delicious chocolate spread!

This year was the year of the Pizza! Yes, Pizza! Every corner I looked there was a new brand of pizza, from flat-breads to regular gluten free pizza crust, each one more delicious than the other! My favorite was Spitano’s. They have a great variety of pizzas, salad dressings and pasta sauces. If you find them on your grocery store, take it home, you won’t regret it.

I also got to meet, and try, the awesomeness of Abundant Love Gluten Free Cake Mixes. They made a mean coffee cake. I was moist, super tasty and unforgettable. So much so, that I bought a mix to make Rum Cake!

Some of the old time favorites were in tha’ house! For example Schar, Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Enjoy Life Foods, and many others! Soon I’ll be posting reviews of the products I received and listing my favorites.

If you didn’t make it to the Expo this year, no worries, there is always next year.

Until next time,

Just One Cupcake
