Gluten-Free Heaven in Dallas

Have you, or your doctor decided that you have to follow a “gluten-free” diet? If so you might be asking yourself, “where do I go from here?” “What is this all about”? “Where can I get more information”? “No pizza or pasta? Kill me now please!” (That last one was me). Don’t worry, I got you!

I went through all that almost 4 years ago and since then the food or products options have increased and the taste had improved – greatly! I remember tasting Glutino Pretzels and almost wanting cry because it was NOTHING like a pretzel and I remember staying away from that brand for the longest time. Nowadays, Glutino is one of most recognized brands. I think about Glutino as the “springboard” to the vast sea of gluten-free products.

You tell yourself, “I’ve seen the gluten-free products prices…” What if don’t like what I bought?” And you wish that there is a place where you can learn about gluten-free products; taste gluten-free foods and learn tips and tricks to incorporate this new “diet” into your current lifestyle.

Exchanging Bad Habits

Exchanging the soda for water!

I remember one time reading that it takes approximately 21 days to form new habits. I also read that it depends on the habit. To be honest, I like to have a “due date” to focus better. 😉 So I’m taking the 21 days… If it happens sooner GOOD!

I decided to restart my blog posts -after being out for almost 2 weeks  – publishing the list of bad habits I’ll be exchanging

  1. Change soda for water and/or Crystal Light 
    Doing this, I’ll reduce the amount of sodium I put in my body and better than that is that I’ll be more hydrated. Resulting in better skin, better productivity, better digestion and more energy – among other results -.
  2. Change eating 2 or 3 cupcakes – sweets, chocolates etc – for just one – like the name of the blog 😉 – once a week
    Doing this, I’ll be doing better use of my calories, Weight Watchers points I have available per day. Also it will result in me enjoying better this treats. I’m NOT – by any means – rewarding myself with food instead learning to enjoy sweets in moderation. 
  3. Reduce the amount of times I go out to eat – lunch and/or dinner –
    Doing this, I’ll be more aware of the calories and/or Weight Watchers points I eat. In addition to this is that I’ll be saving money – YEY!
  4. Exchange my couch for my sneakers
    This is a biggie! I haven’t been active in a while, to the point that my couch has become my second bed – shame on me! -. But I’m decided to change that. I’m going to wear my sneakers and get outside! Take advantage of the beautiful weather that Miami has to offer! 
  5. Exchange OVEREATING for SELF CONTROL
    This one, as well as #4 is a big one. I’m an emotional eater and when I’m sad I start to eat without thinking about it. When I see a “bad” number on the scale, I throw the towel and give up and eat my feelings away. If I’m stressed out and I have candies or sodas at hand I will eat them. So changing overeating for self control will give me the power to reach my goals.

I know it’s not going to be easy. Breaking bad habits and forming new ones it’s challenging. If it were easy, I believe that – at least in my case – I would have reach my weight loss goal and at the moment I would be maintaining, who knows.

I will approach this challenge with an open mind and one day at a time. I will remember the habits I want to exchange when I’m in front of a “situation” and say I will no do it/buy it because I’M EXCHANGING BAD HABITS.

Looking forward to this new stage 🙂 So long bad habits; WELCOME NEW ONES! 🙂

It’s not IT… it’s ME!

Go figure!! Well not really. I kind of new I just confirmed it!

For a while now I’ve been trying to understand why is it that now it’s so hard for me to lose weight vs., when I did it about 4 years ago… and the answer is!! ME!

I’m the one in the way of my weight loss success!

As I mentioned before, last Wednesday I re-joined Weight Watchers. Been “new” to the program – well new in the sense that I’ve never had this leader before – opened my eyes to pay attention to what I’m doing to lose weight.

Something I learned, was the term or concept of BLT. Every “bite, lick or taste” counts. It common sense, but unfortunately, sometimes common sense it’s not so common; and this was my case.

This weekend, every WW point went down this huge black hole – thanks to the “small bites”-, and now I have no extra points left and to be honest I ate enough points to cover what’s left of this week and for the next one also.

I know now that this was due in part to the BLT. Now, after learning/introducing the new term into my weight loss effort, I became aware – SUPER AWARE – of that and discovered that I’m the biggest “BLTer” ever!!! In Puerto Rico – where I come from – we called it “picadera” which means that you have a bite here and there.

Now that I think about it, I’ve always been that way. But when I had the biggest weight lost I remember having that under control. I was aware of why I was eating/drinking. Mindless eating wasn’t part of what I did back then.

I know I said that I was going to leave the past in the past, but this what I just discovered or became aware of it’s huge. I will determine how I’ll relate, deal, coupe with food – BLT-. This I can use in my favor and I will use it!

This is yet another hypothesis I must proof. Although I think I’m pretty close to come to a conclusion on this. For sure this week I won’t lose any weight and when this happens I will not be disappointed or upset. I will only move forward and learn.
