Because weight loss is not easy… but it can be fun!

Lunch Time Options

I try to plan my lunch; Although sometimes I have to admit I “wing it!”

I wing it for different reasons:

  1. I didn’t cook the night before
  2. I cooked but forgot my lunch at home
  3. I wake up late in the morning and didn’t prepare my lunch bag.
  4. I cooked, brought the food, but I don’t want to eat it. (This one happens very often.)

No lunch... where should I go!?

I’m not afraid of the kitchen. I love to cook, so for me preparing food at home and bring it to the office it’s not a big deal.  But there are times, when I’m just lazy and don’t want to prepare the food. Or there are times when my kitchen is a little messy and my brain says “why would you create more mess” – come on instead of telling me, “clean/organize the kitchen” LOL.

Luckily for me, in my work area, there are LOTS of options to choose from. The range goes from healthy to not-so-much. I could pick a salad or a super yummy – and greasy – burger with fries.

When I’m not prepare or when I don’t bring lunch to the office, I try to go for the healthier version. I go and stop by Subway, or just stop by Lime and eat half of a “Healthy Quesadilla” – that’s their name for it. Other options I have are going to Sakaya – which is a Korean/American place with amazing food. When I go there I order the orange ribs with brown rice and garlic-ginger brussels sprouts.

I do however, try o avoid the burger joint that taunts me every time I walk by. Or the pizza place that is closer than all of the healthier options. Is like saying “Don’t go that far… I have yummy food here”. Yummy food is alright!! Then i think about one thing I heard a while back “a minute in your lips, a lifetime in your hips”.

I’m not saying that I don’t make bad choices when I’m hungry. What I’m saying is that I’m aware of what’s best for me, and when I don’t bring my lunch I make the decision to go and pick something in the healthier side. After all it’s my choice and I control my choices.

What do you do for lunch when you forget or dont’ bring lunch to work?

What Gives?

Changing my priorities

One thing that I love about Weight Watchers is that you can “have your cake and eat it too”… In moderation that is.

The truth is that if you don’t internalize the word “moderation” you are in for a rude awakening. Yes is true, Weight Watchers let you eat whatever you want. Yes is true, Weight Watchers won’t stop you from eating the chocolate, the cake, the pizza, the burger… but it is up to you to decide HOW MUCH of any of those items will you eat. Again MODERATION!

In this week’s meeting I understood, “Something is gotta give”. I either exercise the liberty of enjoying my foods in moderation or risk not losing weight. I also understood, that losing weight – I hate to admit it – was low in my list of priorities and that’s why this time it has been so difficult for me to lose the weight.

Being honest is my first step towards putting weight loss in first place. So here I go, with a new order in my life.

Where’s the Chicken!?

I found the chicken! Photo courtesy of: David Castillo Dominici

In my quest for chicken, I grew HUNGRY, very hungry.

Since last night I’ve been craving rotisserie chicken, but it wasn’t until today that I had the chance to go get some from the grocery store around the corner from my house.

Mind you, I planned my dinner at work and knew that I was going to be in and out of the store and into my home to eat. Little did I knew… it didn’t happen that way.

I passed the first grocery store and I remember thinking, “I’ll go to the one next to my house”. I got there and there were NO rotisserie chicken; there was fried… lots, and lots of fried chicken but no rotisserie chicken. When I asked how long until the chicken was ready and to my surprise… it was going to take 30 minutes.

I tried to wait, but I found myself buying cookies… COOKIES!! So I ran out of the store to another to try to get what I wanted. Second store and what do you think happened? Well if you guessed no chicken, you are right. I didn’t even ask how long since the chicken in the machine looked like they just put it there.

So here I am, getting hungrier and being bombarded by big Yellow Arches, jumbo cupcakes – yes you read right, JUMBO cupcakes- and no chicken. I was getting so desperate and hungry.

I decided to stop by Pollo Tropical or Boston Market, after all they had chicken what I wanted but both places the lines of cars were so ridiculous that I kept driving. Then when I was about to stop by Burger King I remembered that there was another grocery store closed by.

I went into the store starving and hoping to find rotisserie chicken… When I walked into the deli it was like a vision… No chicken on the heating racks, or in the rotisserie machine. For a second or two I panicked; but then I saw the lady putting the chicken on top of the counter and I felt so much relief. I took the chicken and went home.

Granted when I got home I was so hungry that I wanted to eat the whole chicken – I didn’t!-. Even though I found the chicken, this teaches me that I MUST BE PREPARED at all times.

What if I didn’t find chicken? What was I going to do? Probably stop by a fast food restaurant and buy food something that I’m trying to avoid at all cost. Today I was fortuntate, but I must take this lesson for the future!
